NGC 5085 is a 11.7 likes bright spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 82 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter.
It was discovered on March 26, 1789 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "F, R, resolvable, comparable, 4 'diameter".
