NGC 5103 is a 12.7 likes bright spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Canes Venatici on the northern sky . It is estimated to be 60 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 25,000 ly . Together with PGC 46386 and PGC 47053 , it forms the small galaxy group LGG 346

The object was discovered on April 9, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "pB, cS, E. 300 power showed it like a star with burrs".
