NGC 5114 is a 12.5 mag bright lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type E / SB0 in the constellation Centaur in the southern sky . It is an estimated 154 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on June 3, 1836 by John Herschel with an 18-inch reflector telescope, which “faint, slightly elongated, pretty suddenly brighter in the middle. The following of 2 ”noted. The second named object is NGC 5108 .
