It belongs to the arrondissement of Villefranche-sur-Saône and the canton of Anse . The inhabitants are called Ambarrois . Ambérieux is surrounded by Saint-Bernard (in the Ain department ) in the north, Trévoux (in the Ain department) in the northeast, Quincieux in the east, Lucenay in the southeast and Anse in the west.
