Saint-Germain-Nuelles is a French commune with 2,265 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Rhône in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Villefranche-sur-Saône and the canton of Le Bois-d'Oingt .

geography

The municipality is located northwest of Lyon . It borders on L'Arbresle to the south, Bully to the west, Le Breuil to the north-west, Chessy to the north, Châtillon to the east and Fleurieux-sur-l'Arbresle to the south -east .

The municipality is divided in two by the A89, which runs from east to west . The south is densely populated and many small towns are spread out here. The north, however, is wooded ( Bois de Oncin ) and has an old quarry ( Carrières de Glay ), where yellow limestone was mined from the 16th to the middle of the 20th century .

history

Saint-Germain-Nuelles came into being with effect from January 1, 2013, when the municipalities of Saint-Germain-sur-l'Arbresle and Nuelles were merged into a commune nouvelle called Saint-Germain-Nuelles . Saint-Germain-sur-l'Arbresle was set as the capital.
