Vaux-en-Beaujolais is located around twelve kilometers northwest of Villefranche-sur-Saône in the Bourgogne wine-growing region . Vaux-en-Beaujolais is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Le Perréon in the north, Salles-Arbuissonnas-en-Beaujolais in the east, Blacé in the south-east, Montmelas-Saint-Sorlin and Rivolet in the south, and Saint-Cyr-le-Chatoux in the west and south-west and Lamure-sur-Azergues to the west.

The novel Clochemerle by Gabriel Chevallier (1895–1969) about a fictional place in Beaujolais is modeled on Vaux-en-Beaujolais. The fictional coat of arms of the city is sometimes treated as if it belonged to Vaux-en-Beaujolais.
