Beaujeu is a French commune with 2,157 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Rhône in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Villefranche-sur-Saône and the canton of Belleville .
history
Beaujeu - located between Mâcon and Lyon - is the historic capital of the old province of Beaujolais , which gave the region its name. Today the place is best known for its wines.
