Belleville-en-Beaujolais is a French municipality with 12,588 inhabitants (2015 - after merger) in the department of Rhône in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Villefranche-sur-Saône and the canton of Belleville . The inhabitants are called Bellevillois .

It was created as Commune nouvelle with effect from January 1, 2019, by merging the previous municipalities of Belleville and Saint-Jean-d'Ardières and in the new municipalities have the status of a Commune déléguée . The administrative headquarters are in Belleville.

Belleville-en-Beaujolais is located on the Ardière and the Saône . The municipality is one of the centers of the Beaujolais wine-growing region , as many well-known wine merchants are based here and all places that have a Cru des Beaujolais are nearby.

Belleville-en-Beaujolais is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Corcelles-en-Beaujolais in the north, Dracé in the northeast, Taponas in the east and northeast, Guéreins in the east, Montmerle-sur-Saône in the southeast, Saint-Georges-de-Reneins in the south, Charentay in the southwest, Saint-Lager and Cercié in the west and Villié-Morgon in the northwest.

The Belleville-Villié-Morgan airfield is located in the municipality .

  • The 12th century church of Notre-Dame was originally part of an Augustinian abbey donated by one of the Lords of Beaujeu . The representations of the deadly sins on the capitals in the nave deserve special attention; as are the geometric motifs on the Romanesque portal of the actually Gothic church. The church received its tower in the 13th century.

Town twinning

  • The town of Belleville has been twinning with the German town of Salzkotten in North Rhine-Westphalia since 1991 . The official seal was preceded by the school partnership between the Salzkotten Philipp-Korte-Realschule and the Collège Émile Zola in Belleville, which has now been running successfully for over 30 years. Every year, mostly in May, meetings of citizens, associations and institutions take place, in which every interested citizen from Salzkotten can take part.
  • Another twin town of Belleville is Călărași in the Republic of Moldova (since 1995).
