Saint-Jean-d'Ardières is located on the Ardière , a tributary of the Saône . Saint-Jean-d'Ardières is surrounded by the neighboring villages of Corcelles-en-Beaujolais in the north, Dracé in the northeast, Taponas in the east, Belleville in the south, Saint-Lager in the southwest, Cercié in the west and Villié-Morgon in the northwest.

On January 1, 2019, Saint-Jean-d'Ardières was merged with Belleville to form the Commune nouvelle Belleville-en-Beaujolais . Since then, Saint-Jean-d'Ardières has been a commune déléguée . The municipality of Saint-Jean-d'Ardières belonged to the arrondissement of Villefranche-sur-Saône and the canton of Belleville .
