The Arrondissement of Villefranche-sur-Saône is a French administrative unit , the department Rhône in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes fills. It consists of eight cantons and 132 municipalities. The main town ( sub-prefecture ) is Villefranche-sur-Saône .

history

Until December 31, 2014, the arrondissement consisted of 11 cantons and 127 communes. In connection with the creation of the Métropole de Lyon as an independent regional authority on January 1, 2015, the arrondissement was considerably enlarged. It expanded to those communities that previously belonged to the Arrondissement of Lyon , but not to the Communauté urbaine de Lyon . As a result, the arrondissement now received all 228 municipalities of the Rhône department outside the Métropole de Lyon.

With effect from February 1, 2017, the arrondissement was redesigned and has since extended over the municipalities of the five northern municipal associations:

Cantons

The cantons belong to the arrondissement of Villefranche-sur-Saône

The nationwide reorganization of the cantons in March 2015 required a larger catchment area per canton, so that the number of cantons increased only slightly despite the considerable expansion after the change of area due to the newly created metropolis. In 2014 and before, the arrondissement was divided into smaller cantons, including the former cantons of Amplepuis , Beaujeu , Lamure-sur-Azergues and Monsols .
