The Arrondissement Vichy is an administrative district in the Allier department in the French region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes . The main town ( sub-prefecture ) is Vichy .
history
On March 4, 1790, with the establishment of the Allier department , a District de Lapalisse was also founded, although it was smaller than the current arrondissement. The district was expanded with the establishment of the Arrondissements on February 17, 1800 and founded as the Arrondissement Lapalisse.
On September 10, 1926, parts of the Gannat arrondissement, which had been dissolved at the time, were added.
On August 24, 1941, the Arrondissement Lapalisse became the Arrondissement Vichy.
geography
The arrondissement borders in the north on the arrondissement Moulins , in the northeast on the arrondissement Charolles in the department Saône-et-Loire ( Bourgogne-Franche-Comté ), in the southeast on the arrondissement Roanne in the department Loire , in the south on the arrondissements Thiers and Riom in Department of Puy-de-Dôme and to the west to the arrondissement of Montluçon .
The arrondissement comprises nine constituencies (cantons), some of them in parts:

The eponymous capital, Vichy, is the largest municipality in the arrondissement with 24,166 inhabitants, followed by Cusset (12,661 inhabitants), Bellerive-sur-Allier (8500 inhabitants) and Gannat (5832 inhabitants, all as of January 1, 2017).
Reorganization of the arrondissements in 2017
As a result of the reorganization of the arrondissements in 2017, the 14 municipalities of Bellenaves , Chouvigny , Chirat-l'Église , Coutansouze , Ébreuil , Échassières , Lalizolle , Louroux-de-Bouble , Nades , Naves , Sussat , Valignat , Veauce and Vicq became part of the arrondissement Montluçon and the 3 municipalities Chezelle , Monestier and Target from the Arrondissement Moulins are assigned to the Arrondissement Vichy. The municipality of Chassenard moved from the arrondissement of Vichy to the arrondissement of Moulins.
