Chassenard is a French municipality with 989 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Allier in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Auvergne ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Moulins (until 2017 Vichy ) and the canton of Dompierre-sur-Besbre (until 2015 Le Donjon ).

geography

Chassenard is about 63 kilometers east-southeast of Moulins on the edge of the Charolais landscape on the Loire . Chassenard is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Digoin in the north and northeast, Varenne-Saint-Germain in the east, Saint-Yan in the east and southeast, L'Hôpital-le-Mercier in the southeast, Luneau in the south, and Saint-Léger-sur-Vouzance in the West and south-west and Molinet to the west and north-west.
