The community is located around 120 kilometers northwest of Lyon and 95 kilometers northeast of Clermont-Ferrand and already borders the neighboring Saône-et-Loire department in the Burgundy region . Neighboring communities are:

The place is located on the Besbre river , which flows a few kilometers further into the Loire . A branch canal of the Canal latéral à la Loire (German: Loire-Seitenkanal) ends here in a harbor basin .

Transport links

Dompierre-sur-Besbre is crossed nationally by the national road N79 , which leads from Paray-le-Monial in the direction of Moulins . A railway line runs parallel to this and is served by the TER Auvergne and TER Bourgogne regional express trains. Regional road traffic is handled via the D779 département road and some other local roads that connect Dompierre with its neighboring communities.

The Loire Lateral Canal and its branch canal to Dompierre are navigable for Freycinet- class cargo ships. However, this traffic route is no longer of commercial importance today, but is used exclusively for leisure purposes.
