The Besbre is a river in the French region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes , most of which runs in the Allier department . It only touches the neighboring Loire department for a short distance . The Besbre rises in the municipality of Lavoine , generally drains north and after 106 kilometers flows into the Loire as a left tributary in the municipality of Diou . Shortly before the mouth, the Besbre crosses under the Canal latéral à la Loire . From here to the town of Dompierre-sur-Besbre , a branch canal runs parallel to the river , which can also be navigated by ships.
