Buxières-les-Mines is located about 30 kilometers west-southwest of Allier between the Bandais rivers and its tributary Morgon . Buxières-les-Mines is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Ygrande in the north, Saint-Aubin-le-Monial in the north-east, Saint-Hilaire in the east, Rocles and Saint-Sornin in the south-east, Chavenon in the south, Murat in the south-west, and Tortezais in the west Southwest as well as Vieure in the northwest.
