Garnat-sur-Engièvre is located about 26 kilometers east-northeast of Moulins in the Sologne Bourbonnaise landscape on the Loire , which borders the municipality to the east. Garnat-sur-Engièvre is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Martin-des-Lais in the north, Lesme in the east, Bourbon-Lancy in the east and south-east, Beaulon in the south and Paray-le-Frésil in the west.
