Yzeure is a French city with 13,088 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Allier in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .

geography

The city of Yzeure connects seamlessly to the eastern outskirts of Moulins in the Bourbonnais .

history

Yzeure has Gallic origins. In Gallo-Roman times it was called Icciodorum . Durum , Dorum and Duron often appear in Gallo-Roman place names, the word is related to the German word "Tür" and means "passage". There were several localities with the name Icciodurum, whose name took different forms depending on the local dialect: Yzeures , Izeure and Issoire . From the 1st to the 3rd century, Yzeure was a center of pottery .

In the Carolingian period (8th – 10th century) Yzeure belonged to the county of Autun . In the 14th century the dukes of Bourbon made nearby Moulins their capital.

Culture and sights

Yzeure has been awarded two flowers by the Conseil national des villes et villages fleuris (National Council of Flowered Cities and Villages). The "flowers" are awarded in the course of a regional competition, whereby a maximum of four flowers can be achieved.

On February 8, 2005, Yzeure was named Ville amie des enfants (child-friendly city), which is awarded by UNICEF France .

The Saint-Pierre church dates from the 12th century. It was enlarged in the 15th and 16th centuries. The bell tower was added in the 17th century . A crypt under the choir was cleared out in 1872. Its Gothic cross vault still bears traces of paintings from the 15th century. In 1914 the church was classified as a monument historique .

The estate on which Panloue Castle stands probably belonged to the Knights Templar in the Middle Ages . A stone from the 12th or 13th century above the door of the chapel shows an Easter lamb . The castle itself dates from the 17th century and is built in the Louis-Treize style, named after Louis XIII. It is owned by the city and was entered in the supplementary directory of the Monuments historiques in 1947 ( inscrit MH ).

Town twinning

Yzeure has had a partnership with Bendorf in Germany since 1986 , a partnership with Kafountine in Senegal since 1988 and a partnership with Gherla in Romania since 1990 .

economy

An important line of business for the Yzeuriens is the breeding of domestic cattle , domestic sheep and domestic pigs . The city's numerous businesses and shops are concentrated in the Robet and Rancy business parks, the Cap Sud and Michelet shopping areas, and the La Mothe business park. The Center Hospitalier Moulin Yzeure hospital employs over 2000 people.

Sports

With AS Yzeure in men's and FF Yzeure Allier Auvergne in women's football , the municipality has two sports clubs, both of which have already competed in the top leagues in France, with women even having been in the top division for several years . Both play their home games in the urban Stade de Bellevue .
