Kafountine is a village of around 5000 inhabitants and eponymous capital of a rural community (Communauté rurale) in the Bignona department of the Ziguinchor region , located in southwest Senegal . The rural community comprises 19 villages on an area of 908 km².
Kafountine is located directly on the Atlantic Ocean and has a fine sandy beach . The main industries are fishing and, increasingly, tourism .

traffic
Kafountine is not served by the trunk road network in Senegal . The only connection to the N 5 is a 28-kilometer paved spur road that leads from Diouloulou to Kafountine and ends at the hotel complexes on the beach south of the village.
Banjul International Airport near Yundum in Gambia can be easily reached via this spur road and the N5 in the north direction and in the opposite direction Bignona and Ziguinchor can be reached in the southeast .
Community partnerships
There is a community partnership and development cooperation with the French town of Yzeure in the Allier department .
