Contigny is a French municipality with 592 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Allier in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Auvergne ). It belongs to the canton of Souvigny and the Arrondissement of Moulins .

geography

Contigny is located in the north of the Auvergne in the historic Bourbonnais province , about 26 kilometers south-southwest of the city center of Moulins and about 25 kilometers north-northwest of Vichy . Contigny is surrounded by the neighboring communities Monétay-sur-Allier in the north, La Ferté-Hauterive in the north and north-east, Saint-Loup in the east, Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule in the south, Saulcet in the south-west and Verneuil-en-Bourbonnais in the west .

The municipal area is crossed by the Sioule River into which the Douzenan flows on the southern municipal boundary . The former Route nationale 9 runs through the municipality .
