Gannay-sur-Loire is a French commune with a population of 409 (as at 1st January 2017) in the department of Allier in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Moulins and the canton of Dompierre-sur-Besbre (until 2015: canton of Chevagnes ).

Gannay-sur-Loire is located about 28 kilometers northeast of Moulins in the Sologne Bourbonnaise landscape on the Loire , which borders the municipality in the northeast. Gannay-sur-Loire is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Lamenay-sur-Loire in the north and northwest, Saint-Hilaire-Fontaine in the north and northeast, Cronat in the east, Saint-Martin-des-Lais in the southeast, Paray-le-Frésil in the South, La Chapelle-aux-Chasses in the southwest, Lucenay-lès-Aix in the west and Cossaye in the west and northwest.
