Klaus Selle

Klaus Selle (born September 29, 1949 ) is a German urban planner and urban researcher.

Career

After studying architecture with a focus on urban planning at RWTH Aachen University , Selle switched to the spatial planning faculty at the University of Dortmund , where he worked at Peter Zlonicky's chair as a scientific assistant or senior engineer until 1987. During this time, he completed his doctorate with a thesis on urban development analyzes (1979) and the habilitation (1986) for the subject of urban renewal and housing policy. From 1987 to 2001 Selle was a professor at the Institute for Open Space Development and Planning-Related Sociology in the Faculty of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Development at the University of Hanover , from 2011 to 2018 he was professor for planning theory and urban development at the Faculty of Architecture at RWTH Aachen University .

Selle is a member of the German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning , the Information Circle for Spatial Planning (IfR) and the Association for Urban, Regional and Regional Planning (SRL). He is also a member of the advisory board / board of trustees and a. at the diSP editorial team , the vhw - Verband Wohnen und Stadtentwicklung and Ko-Operative e. G and the ISSAB .

Alongside Sarah Ginski and Marion Klemme (since 2006), Selle is part of the core editorial team of the internet magazine pnd |, which he co-founded online , which is published in cooperation with various university and research institutions.

In practice, Selle has been involved in planning tasks since the mid-1970s and advises initiatives, municipalities and associations, especially on the communicative design of processes:

  • in the 1970s and 1980s a. a. as an initiative consultant in the Ruhr area (especially in the disputes over workers' housing estates ), for a time he was chairman of the supervisory board of a housing association ( Rheinpreussensiedlung in Duisburg ), co-founder of WohnBund (association for housing policy initiatives) e.   • in the 1980s and 1990s in lawyer planning (commissioned by the state capital Hanover ) in the run-up to the citizens' survey for the then planned world exhibition ( EXPO 2000 ) and from 1993 to 2003 in the city development office in Hanover (together with Sid Auffahrt and Petra Metsch)
  • since 2003 in various planning and consulting projects; in this context the founding of Netzwerk e. V. and NetzwerkStadt GmbH ( Schwerte ).
  • Together with scheuvens + wachten, Selle was involved in the city-wide urban development concept (2009–2011), the evaluation of the Socially Integrative City (2011/12) and the conversions in Bamberg (2012–2016) as well as the Inner City master plan (2010–2012) in Bonn . Furthermore, Selle was involved (in cooperation with the BKR Aachen) in the master plan Aachen 2030 (2012–2014) and in the public participation in Tübingen to take stock and provide impetus for further development (2012–2014).
