Peter Zlonicky

Peter Zlonicky (born June 6, 1935 in Karviná , Czech Republic) is a German architect and urban planner .

Life

He studied from 1955 to 1961 at the Technical University of Darmstadt , where he was assistant to Heinrich Bartmann from 1962 to 1966 and a lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture. 1964–1979 he headed an office for town planning and urban research, from 1966 in Essen.

From 1971 to 1976 he worked as a full professor at RWTH Aachen University , Chair of Housing. In 1976 he was appointed professor at the University of Dortmund , where, until his retirement in 2000, he headed and made a decisive contribution to the urban development and land-use planning department of the spatial planning faculty. From 1980 he ran an office for urban planning and urban research in Dortmund together with Kunibert Wachten and from 1991 with Othmar Ebert.

From 2000 to 2002 he held a chair for urban planning at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg .

Peter Zlonicky has held international visiting professorships (in Venice, Trento, Zurich and Vienna) and offices in renowned institutions such as the Deutscher Werkbund , the Akademie der Künste Berlin (member since 1995), the German Institute for Urban Studies (Difu) and the Institute for Regional Development and Structural planning (IRS) true. As one of the scientific directors of the IBA Emscher Park (1988–1997), he gave important impulses for innovative strategies in urban development and spatial planning.

Peter Zlonicky lives in Munich and has headed an office for urban planning and research there since 2000.

Honors

In March 2010, Peter Zlonicky was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his great services to urban development in Germany.
