The Herne fire brigade is the fire brigade of the independent city of Herne in North Rhine-Westphalia . In addition to the 150 full-time firefighters, there are 200 volunteers. These take care of the non-police defense of danger within the city and also provide help beyond the city limits. In detail, the following fire engines exist :

Professional fire brigade: 1 (Guard 1: Sodinger Straße, Herne-Mitte), 2 ( Guard 2 : Stöckstraße, Herne-Wanne)

Volunteer fire brigade: 11 (Sodingen), 12 (Baukau), 13 (Eickel), 14 (In der Wanne), 15 (Bickern-Crange), 17 (Herne-Mitte), 18 (Holsterhausen) and 19 (Röhlinghausen). Fire service train 16 (south) was closed in 2019 by the head of the fire brigade due to a reorganization of the fire service trains.

In order to support the professional fire brigade with special tasks, there are two so-called special units: command support (support of the head of operations in the performance of his tasks with a command unit and resources) and water rescue (performance of tasks on and on water)

In addition to the two guards of the professional fire brigade , one in the city of Herne and the former guard of the Wanne-Eickel fire brigade, there are also five fire stations of the volunteer fire brigade : the fire station east in Sodingen, the fire station west in Wanne at the location of station 2, the fire station Röhlinghausen in the district of the same name, the Eickel fire station also in the district of the same name and the so-called Köhne fire station in Baukau (this fire station will be replaced by the newly built Mitte fire station (Koniner Strasse) in the course of 2020).

For young fire fighters there are four youth fire brigades in Herne since 1992 and one children's fire brigade since 2009 .

The youth fire brigades are named after the former Herner collieries Shamrock , Pluto , Constantin and Unser Fritz . The youth fire brigades are trained by members of the volunteer fire brigade, but are not subject to any fire brigade.

As one of the few cities in Germany, Herne can fall back on two local branches of the technical relief organization . The two local branches of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief are on the one hand the local branch Herne on Castroper Straße 56, which is responsible for the urban area of Herne, and on the other hand the local branch Wanne-Eickel on Plutostraße 15, which is responsible for the urban area Wanne-Eickel. This peculiarity complements the fire brigade and rescue service of the city of Herne significantly, as the existing guards of the fire brigade are further supported by technical specialist groups.
