The Iserlohn fire brigade is responsible for non-police security in the city of Iserlohn and is divided into a professional fire brigade and a voluntary fire brigade . The professional fire brigade not only provides fire fighting and general help, especially in emergencies, but also provides the city's rescue service .

Professional fire brigade

Fire station

The professional fire brigade is housed in the professional fire station, which was inaugurated in 1972, and an extension was added in 2011/12. The Hauptwache is located at Dortmunder Straße 112. The emergency number could be assigned as a house number for them, as there are only a few buildings on Dortmunder Straße. The control center uses the Cobra control center system .

The Iserlohn fire brigade was founded in 1945 as a full-time guard with 15 men and was housed near today's Schillerplatz in the city center. The new Hauptwache on Dortmunder Strasse has existed since 1972. Today's professional fire brigade was founded in 1974. Today 121 people are employed in the emergency service, whereby the proportion of women has increased in recent years.

An extensive fleet of vehicles is maintained. There is a command vehicle 1 (ELW 1) for the operations command . Among the three fire engines are an emergency fire fighting vehicle (HLF) 20 and a tank fire engine (TLF) 4000 on duty, as well as a further emergency fire fighting vehicle 10 as a reserve vehicle. There is also a turntable ladder vehicle (DLAK) 23/12 and a rescue vehicle (RW).

The rescue service has three ambulances (RTW), two ambulances (KTW), one of which is on duty 24 hours a day and one on day duty, and an emergency vehicle (NEF). One additional ambulance and one KTW each and two NEF act as reserve vehicles. From January 2, 2020, the KTW day service will no longer be manned by the professional fire brigade, but by the Malteser Aid Service (MHD).

Until December 2018, a second emergency doctor vehicle (NEF) was stationed on the day duty at the Marienhospital in Letmathe. From January 2019 to November 2019, this second NEF was stationed at the Letmathe fire station of the volunteer fire brigade, alternating with an ambulance that was used as an emergency ambulance if necessary . The city of Iserlohn has not had a second NEF since November 2019 because the Marienhospital Letmathe ceased operations on November 1, 2019.

The operations are supported and guided by five command vehicles . The fire brigade has six roll-off containers (AB respiratory protection, AB operations management, AB hazardous goods, AB MANV, AB special extinguishing agent, AB Mulde), which are transported with three swap-loader vehicles (WLF). Furthermore, two multi-purpose vehicles (MZF) with modular structures are carried, which, depending on the situation, can transport the fire fighting or rescue service modules. These MZF are primarily used for operations in rough terrain or on the water, but are also available for fire safety guards or other operations. There are also three equipment trolleys (GW oil, GW logistics, GW technology) and various small vehicles.

Volunteer firefighter

In Iserlohn, the volunteer fire brigade is always deployed when, according to the Alarm and Disengagement Ordinance (AAO), more than 10 people are required for the operation (e.g. in case of room fires, traffic accidents with trapped persons, leaks of chemicals, etc.) or the The professional fire brigade is already involved in a mission and has no vehicle available at the moment. The control center system no longer decides which unit is dispatched on the basis of fire-fighting areas, but rather based on the current traffic situation.

The volunteer fire brigade is divided into 14 fire fighting groups, which are combined into four fire engines:

  • Extinguishing train middle : Extinguishing group 11 town center (MTF, LF 10, TLF 4000), Extinguishing group 13 Bremke (ELW 1, HLF 10 ), Extinguishing group 14 Iserlohner Heide ( LF 10 )
  • Extinguishing train south : Extinguishing group 12 Obergrüne (ELW 1, HLF 10), Extinguishing group 15 Kesbern (MTF, LF 20), Extinguishing group 22 Lössel (LF 10), Extinguishing group 24 Untergrüne (LF KatS)
  • Löschzug West : Löschgruppe 21 Letmathe (HLF 20, DLK 23-12 ), Löschgruppe 23 Oestrich (ELW 1, LF KatS, GW-L 2), Löschgruppe 25 Stübbeken (MTF, LF 10)
  • Fire fighting train north : Fire fighting group 31 Sümmern (MTF, HLF 10, LF KatS), fire fighting group 32 Drüpplingsen (LF 10, TLF 3000), fire fighting group 33 hens (ELW 1, HLF 10, TLF 3000), fire fighting group 34 Leckingsen (LF 10, TLF 3000 )

The extinguishing groups 13 and 14, 12 and 24, as well as 21 and 25. Since these are housed in the same locations, these pairs of two always go out to work together.

A total of 302 people are active in the volunteer fire brigade.

Together with the youth and professional fire brigade, the volunteer fire brigade has set up a “model assembly group” which, among other things, has built and equipped a large training facility.

Other departments and activities

The Iserlohn youth fire brigade is assigned to the volunteer fire brigade and was founded on May 9, 1972. In 1990 the first girls were accepted. The youth fire brigade was housed in the Leckingsen fire station until the end of 2008, and in November 2008 the youth fire brigade moved to the main station. The Young Firefighters used a stand-especially for them available portable pump vehicle (TSF) and one stationed at the fire station crew transport vehicle (MTF). The number of members has been around 35 for years. In addition to professional training, the young people undertake many leisure activities together.

A telecommunication service called special unit radio (SEF or SE radio) is provided by almost 15 emergency services from the fire fighting groups of the volunteer fire brigade , which is generally available for all operations of keyword level 2 (except rescue service) and, on request, the operations management either on ELW 1 or assisted with the AB-Einsatzleitung. On request, this special unit can be deployed in other cities in the Märkisches Kreis, and in extreme cases outside of the Märkischer Kreis.

In addition to two other fire brigades in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Iserlohn fire brigade has had a special rescue dog squadron / tracking technology (SE-RHOT) unit since 1998 , which can also be deployed abroad after an earthquake to search for missing people under rubble.

In addition, modular groups (dangerous goods, water supply north & south, MANV) are formed within the volunteer fire brigade, which are automatically alerted in addition to the professional fire brigade and the extinguishing groups during certain operations. A logistics train with the selectable modules forest fire / flood, fire / explosion and technical assistance can be provided for regional use.

The Floriansdorf Iserlohn is an educational institution for preventive fire protection and describes itself as a “center for safety education and clarification”. It was the first of its kind in Germany. The concept has already been "exported" to other cities.

A marching band is also active within the fire brigade in Drüpplingsen.
