Bochum fire brigade |
The Bochum fire brigade is a municipal authority of the city of Bochum . It consists of a professional fire brigade founded in 1901 and fourteen volunteer fire brigades and, as Office 37, is subordinate to Department III: Personnel, Law and Order. She takes on tasks in the area of fire protection , technical assistance and rescue services . The chief employer of the Bochum fire brigade is the Lord Mayor of the city of Bochum.
The fire brigade and rescue service vehicles deploy over 150 times a day. The majority of the approximately 60,000 missions per year are carried out by the rescue service.
tasks
The tasks of the fire brigade in Bochum arise mainly from the "Law on fire protection, assistance and disaster control (BHKG)" and the "Law on rescue services and emergency rescue and patient transport by entrepreneurs" of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. As part of its duties, the fire brigade takes care of the defense and removal of dangers to people, animals, property and the environment caused by fires, accidents or environmental influences. In addition, there are tasks in the area of preventive fire protection (fire protection reports, fire shows, etc.). Further tasks include training and advanced training for fire and rescue services.
Ambulance duties
In the area of the rescue service, the Bochum fire brigade is responsible for transporting the ambulance, emergency rescue and emergency medical services. These tasks are carried out together with the German Red Cross , Johanniter Unfallhilfe , the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund and Falck Rettungsdienst GmbH .
Protection goals
For fire-fighting operations, the response time defines an arrival time of 10 fire fighters within ten minutes of the alarm time in 80% of the city area. This target was met in 82.62% of all missions in 2016.
In the area of the rescue service, the aim is that in 90% of all cases an ambulance and an ambulance vehicle (if this was initially considered necessary) must arrive at the emergency location within a maximum of ten minutes after accepting the emergency call.

Volunteer firefighter
The Bochum volunteer fire brigade consists of fourteen extinguishing units with around 400 members. These either have their own fire stations in the city or share their location with the professional fire brigade. In addition, two special units have been established that take on specific tasks and are independent units.
The volunteer fire brigade in Bochum is usually alerted to support the professional fire brigade. Smaller assignments are also processed independently. In addition, the volunteers are deployed when the forces of the respective professional fire brigade are tied to a deployment site for a longer period and cannot work on further deployments at the same time.
