The Gütersloh fire brigade is the fire brigade of the East Westphalian district town of Gütersloh and provides fire protection and rescue services in the city. It consists of the professional fire brigade and five volunteer fire engines from the volunteer fire brigade . The fire and rescue station of the professional fire brigade, which is constantly manned, drives operations throughout the city. In addition, every time the fire brigade is deployed (with the exception of minor oil damage, insect operations and small animal rescues), the responsible volunteer fire engines in the districts are alerted.

History and organization

In the districts of Avenwedde , Friedrichsdorf , Isselhorst and Spexard there are voluntary fire engines that were independent fire brigades until the regional reform in 1970. The Gütersloh fire fighting train is responsible for the core city as a voluntary unit, but it is not generally alerted. The professional fire brigade deals with small fires and the like in the inner city area alone. This provides significant relief for the fire-fighting train, which is used around 120 to 150 times a year on average.

There are also the two works fire brigades Miele and Mohn Media (Bertelsmann) and the Pfleiderer works fire brigade in the city . These fire brigades are called upon to support the Gütersloh fire brigade for operations in the city area. Until 2001 there was also the Defense Fire & Rescue Service of the British Armed Forces in Gütersloh.

In addition to the fire brigade, the Malteser Emergency Service is involved in the rescue service of the city of Gütersloh. The local group provides an ambulance every day between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., and an ambulance and the corresponding full-time crew on workdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A public-law cooperation agreement between the cities of Verl and Gütersloh enables the Gütersloh fire department to support the Verl volunteer fire department in time-critical operations in the Verler district of Sürenheide and in the industrial area Verl-West. Due to the location of the fire stations , the Spexard fire engine can reach these locations faster than the local fire brigade.

Control center

The control center of the city and the district of Gütersloh has been operated by the district since January 1, 2020 on the basis of the provision contract. The workforce is 32 positions in three shifts. The officers also take turns with the fire brigade's fire brigade.
