The Bielefeld fire brigade is divided into the professional fire brigade , the rescue service , the voluntary fire brigade and the fire brigade music train . In March 1860, four firefighters founded a gymnastics fire brigade , so the Bielefeld volunteer fire brigade celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2010. The professional fire brigade was founded in 1899. The more than 300 full-time and around 850 volunteer firefighters are on duty in four guards of the professional fire brigade and 28 extinguishing departments of the volunteer fire brigades.
The fire department Bielefeld is supported by the five located in the city operating fire brigades with around 100 part-time emergency services.

The professional fire brigade and the voluntary fire brigade are headed by the head of the Bielefeld fire department . The professional fire brigade is divided into the areas of general administration, civil and disaster control , deployment, technology and preventive fire protection and training. The voluntary fire brigade is divided into three fire protection districts, each headed by a district spokesman and a deputy, as well as the youth fire department . The interests of the volunteer members are represented by the general spokesman vis-à-vis the management.
Ambulance service
In the rescue service of the city of Bielefeld, the professional fire brigade operates up to eleven ambulances in regular operation, which are at the main station on the town wood (four vehicles), on the fire station west (three vehicles), the fire station north (two vehicles) and on the fire station south (two vehicles ) are stationed. In addition, a special children's intensive care unit (KIM) is operated by the BF at the Hauptwache. In the area of emergency medical service, the professional fire brigade manned two emergency medical vehicles (NEF) and the Christoph 13 rescue helicopter during regular operations . If necessary, there is also the option of filling another NEF at any time. The coordination of all rescue services takes place via the control center of the Bielefeld fire brigade. The medical director of the rescue service is also organizationally assigned to the fire department.
In addition to the professional fire brigade, the German Red Cross , the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe and Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund have also been involved in rescue operations since 1994 . These aid organizations have been merged to form ASB DRK JUH Rescue Service Bielefeld gGmbH since 2002 and are involved in the rescue service of the city of Bielefeld with three ambulances (RTW), one emergency doctor vehicle (NEF) and nine ambulances (KTW) at a total of three locations.
The intensive care transports are now mainly carried out by the professional fire brigade with their own specially designed vehicle and specially trained professional fire brigade officers.
In addition, there is the private company Biekra (Bielefelder Krankentransporte) and its sister company Unfall Rettung Krankentransporte Haupt, which support the city's public ambulance service at two locations with one ambulance in 24-hour service and two ambulances in day service.
In 2010 almost 38,000 rescue missions were carried out in Bielefeld, in 2013 there were almost 44,000. There are therefore a total of eight rescue stations and three NEF locations in the city of Bielefeld.
Fire and rescue stations of the professional fire brigade
The professional fire brigade of the city of Bielefeld currently has four guards throughout the city.
Hauptwache
The main fire station is the seat of the control center , administration and workshops. It is located in the Mitte district in the road at the town of wood . Attached to the station is the Bielefeld Fire Brigade Museum , which shows exhibits from 100 years of fire and technical history.
Around 45,000 calls for help are received annually on the eight emergency call lines of the control center. These include: B. 1,500 fire reports, 29,000 rescue calls and 10,000 ambulance requests. A special traffic light computer at Stadtwerke Bielefeld is supposed to accelerate and make emergency trips safer.
Two ELW-1 , two HLF 20/16 , one DLA (K) 23-12 GL , one RW-2 and various special vehicles are constantly manned at this station. These special vehicles include a. the extensive swap body system , a P TLF 4000 as well as several equipment trolleys and logistics vehicles.
In the rescue service area, several ambulances / 1 children's intensive mobile and 1 NEF (external location hospital center) are available.
A wide variety of reserve vehicles, which are used as a failure reserve and for training, are also stationed at this station.
West fire station
The West Fire and Rescue Station is located in the Babenhausen district. Usually six firefighters are on duty here on the fire engine. In addition, four paramedics are available for the rescue service. On weekdays, Mon-Fri, the guard is increased by two officers for the fire engine. Among other things, an HLF 16/12, a DLA (K) 23/12 GL and various other vehicles are available at the station. The West Guard is also a training station for the Bielefeld Fire Department. Most of the courses for the Bielefeld volunteer fire brigade and the basic course for professionals in the professional fire brigade take place here. There is also a breathing apparatus training facility in the basement of the station.
Fire station south
The fire and rescue station south is responsible for the southern districts. After the renovation work, the South Guard has a new training room and a new fitness room. The existing infrastructure of the station will also be completely overhauled. In the emergency service there are usually six firefighters on the fire engine and four paramedics for the rescue service. On weekdays, Mon-Fri, the guard is increased by one officer on day duty to seven men. An HLF 20/16, a DLA (K) 23/12 GL, a GW oil and various other vehicles are available at the station.
Since October 1, 2019, the South Guard has also been providing the staff for the new ambulance station 10 in the Sennestadt district of Bielefeld.
Fire station north
The fire station north in the northern part of the city on Herford Street started operations on November 16, 2009. Eight officers on the fire engine and two officers in the rescue service do their duty here from Monday to Friday. In the evenings, on weekends and on public holidays, the guard is manned by six officers for the fire engine and two for the rescue service. An HLF 20/16 (1/3), a DLA (K) 23/12 (1/1), a GW oil and an RTW (1/1) are constantly manned. In addition, the fire extinguisher workshop and the main respiratory protection workshop have been integrated into this station.

The Gellershagen fire extinguishing department was founded in 1903 and is responsible for the districts of Gellershagen and Sudbrack , which also includes the university campus. The 25 active members move out annually on around 70 missions and also provide fire safety guards in the Schüco Arena and in the city theater. In 1881 the Großdornberg extinguishing department was founded in what was then the Dornberg office. Today, 35 members oversee around 50 missions, including on the university campus. There are five emergency vehicles available for this. Vehicles: HLF 16/12, LF 20 KatS. (MAN-TGM, Ziegler-2016), SW 2000, TLF 2000, MTF. The department is also active in fire protection education. She completes fire safety guards in the Oetkerhalle Bielefeld. The new fire station was officially opened in mid-2014 so that the vehicle could be moved from the closed Kirchdornberg department and fire protection in Kirchdornberg is ensured. In the district of Theesen , the smaller fire fighting department Theesen , with one vehicle and 30 members, is responsible. Vehicle: LF 10
Responsible for the western downtown area is the deletion Division West . The 30-member troop takes on a good 120 missions a year. The 27 comrades of the Schildesche extinguishing department have counted around 50 to 60 missions in the past few years. In addition, the fire brigade, founded in 1884, also looks after the annual Easter bonfire and has several fire safety guards in the city theater and in the Seidenstickerhalle. Fire protection district east

The 32-member Gadderbaum-Bethel extinguishing department is responsible for the Gadderbaum district on the other side of the Sparrenberg . You have three emergency vehicles. The extinguishing department is mainly responsible for the numerous hospitals, disabled facilities and nursing homes of the Bodelschwingschen Anstalten Bethel. The Hillegossen extinguishing department is alerted to a good 100 operations each year. Most of the operations of the Hillegossen fire fighting department are on Autobahn 2 (in the direction of Dortmund and Hanover). Due to its responsibility for the city district Mitte, the area of action of the fire extinguishing department Mitte also includes special objects such as underground stations and hospitals . The 24 members go out on around 110 missions every year. For the entire city area, the central fire fighting department, together with the eastern fire fighting department, provides a decontamination component for people and equipment as part of NBC protection. The central fire department and the eastern fire department are part of the ABC train of the city of Bielefeld. The fire extinguishing department east , founded in 1881, is responsible for the east of Bielefeld. The 23-member team is called to around 40 fire and emergency services every year. A total of 41 active members and four emergency vehicles look after the Ubbedissen district , parts of Hillegossen and a section of the Federal Highway 2 . The 40 members of the Brake fire extinguishing department are called to around 30 missions a year . In addition to its fire protection tasks, LA Brake looks after the roll-off container rescue service of the professional fire brigade as a machinist and leads an inflatable tent into action. In the event of an MANV (mass incidence of injured, sick and affected persons), the technical and logistical maintenance of one of the treatment stations (BHP) is carried out. The districts of Heepen , Baumheide , Oldentrup , Brönninghausen and a section of Autobahn 2 fall under the jurisdiction of the 43-member Heepen fire fighting department . It has six emergency vehicles and handles around 80 missions a year. In addition, the roll-off container operations management (AB-EL) of the Bielefeld professional fire brigade, newly acquired in 2006, is looked after by the fire fighting department in the event of an incident in the logistical area (construction, technical commissioning). The Sieker fire department is responsible for the district of the same name and for parts of Stieghorst and hospitals. Two vehicles are available to the 30 members. Fire protection district south
The Brackwede extinguishing department is responsible for the Brackwede district. The 43 members look after around 130 fire and rescue missions every year, and they are also involved in tunnel missions in the area of the light rail . You have six emergency vehicles, including a DLK 23/12. Apart from the Brackwede extinguishing department, only the Ubbedissen extinguishing department in the ranks of the volunteer fire brigade has a modern DLK 23/12. The 45 active comrades in the copper hammer fire department ensure fire protection in parts of the Brackwede, Quelle and Ummeln districts. Founded in 1793 as a plant fire brigade , recognized as this in 1880, then converted by the Möller Werke plant fire brigade into a fire brigade for the city of Brackwede in the 1970s and later integrated into the Bielefeld fire brigade after the incorporation of Brackwede, the focus of the operations is clear today outside the Möller Group factory premises. The active operations department of the Eckardtsheim fire fighting department comprises a total of 38 members (including 6 female comrades) , the honorary department comprises 16 members. You have three emergency vehicles at your disposal. You work off between 60 and 70 assignments per year. A small focus in the extinguishing district are the many facilities for the elderly, care and handicapped people. The extinguishing department is often alerted to technical assistance and dangerous goods operations in the nearby industrial areas. Responsible for the Quelle district, parts of the Teutoburg Forest and parts of the Ostwestfalendamm is the one woman and 36 men strong force from the Quelle fire department . You have three emergency vehicles and are deployed between 25 and 35 times a year. One of the four former emergency vehicles (a DL 18 from 1959) was maintained for many years by the comrades with a lot of love and care. Since it was still technically flawless, it even went out on missions. Some operations could even be handled better with it than with a new DLK 23/12, since narrow backyards and small installation areas were no problem either. Because the DL 18 for the management of the professional fire brigade no longer fit into the image of a modern and technically powerful fire brigade, the now 50-year-old vehicle was retired in 2009 and acquired by the local classic car club. Another highlight of the Quelle fire fighting department is the 20 meter high hose tower. Until the early 1970s, hose maintenance for the entire old district of Bielefeld was housed here. During weddings, up to 23 km of hose material hung in the tower to dry and around 700 hoses were stored. Today the Queller only clean their own hoses, the remaining 28 departments exchange their hoses at the professional fire brigade on the town wood. However, this landmark in Quelle will sooner or later disappear, as space has to be created for a more modern fire station, as a TLF had to be reduced in size as early as 1996, especially for the vehicle hall, as it no longer meets the requirements with a height of a good 3 m who provide the new fire engines. Fire department music train
The fire brigade music train of the city of Bielefeld was founded in 1956. He is one of the most musically diverse orchestras that plays from modern entertainment to traditional brass music. The task is the musical entertainment at fire service events. The Musikzug currently has around 40 members.
