Martin Gimm

Martin Gimm (born May 25, 1930 in Waltershausen ) is a German sinologist .

Life

Before he studied musicology , sinology , Tibetan, Mongolian, Japanese and previously mathematics, philosophy and oriental studies at the universities of Jena and Leipzig and at the Free University of Berlin , and briefly in Stockholm and Tokyo, he was an organist in his hometown from 1943 to 1949 Active pianist. As head of the German Cultural Center, he lectured at Taibei University between 1959 and 1963 and studied Manjurian . He was an associate professor at three Chinese universities and received an honorary certificate from the Chinese Minister of Education. After his habilitation, he worked from 1970 to 1996 as a university professor for sinology along with man law at the University of Cologne and, after his retirement, temporarily as a lecturer for man law at the University of Munich . In 2019 he was awarded the PIAC Prize for Altaic Studies .
