Ubbedissen is a district of Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia and belongs to the Stieghorst district . Until 1972 Ubbedissen was an independent municipality in the Office Heepen the circle Bielefeld .

geography

The city of Bielefeld is not further subdivided into administrative or political units below the ten districts . Districts in Bielefeld are therefore only informal sub-areas, the delimitation of which mostly relates to the area of an old community. For statistical purposes, however, Bielefeld is divided into 72 “statistical districts”. The old community Ubbedissen today belongs to the statistical districts 59 Dingerdissen and 60 Ubbedissen / Lämershagen .

Ubbedissen is located in the east of Bielefeld on the northern edge of the Teutoburg Forest and borders the Bielefeld districts of Lämershagen , Hillegossen , Oldentrup and Brönninghausen as well as the Lippe community of Leopoldshöhe . The middle part of Ubbedissen is also called Frordissen and the northern part is also called Dingerdissen , the southernmost part with the main road is Ubbedissen. Frordissen and Ubbedissen have merged with one another (the possible boundary between the two is formed by the railway line or the B66), but a settlement-related demarcation can be seen from Dingerdissen.

The eastern border of Ubbedissen is a centuries-old, historically significant border, originally between the County of Ravensberg and the County of Lippe , later between Prussia and the Principality of Lippe and today between the city of Bielefeld and the Lippe district . A historical boundary stone on Detmolder Straße marks this old border.

history

The Dingerdissen farm was already mentioned in 1028. In the further course of the Middle Ages, the farmers Ubbedissen and Lippe, which belonged to the bailiwick of Heepen in the county of Ravensberg , formed in the area of today's district . After the Napoleonic era , Ubbedissen and Lippe (only Bechterdissen) belonged to the Bielefeld district since 1816 and now formed a common community, which in some representations was also called "Ubbedissen-Lippe" until the 20th century.

As part of the municipal reorganization of the Bielefeld area , Ubbedissen was incorporated into Bielefeld on January 1, 1973 and has since been part of the Stieghorst district.

Protestant church

Until the formation of its own parish in the middle of the 19th century, Ubbedissen was part of the parish of Oerlinghausen, although Oerlinghausen itself has always belonged to the Principality of Lippe. The Evangelical Parish Church on Detmolder Strasse was built in the years 1877 and 1878 as a three-aisled pillar hall church in neo-Gothic style based on designs by the Prussian master builder Friedrich August Stüler , a student of Karl Friedrich Schinkel .

The Ubbedisser Catholics belong to the parish of St. Bonifatius in Stieghorst.

education

In Ubbedissen there are several day-care centers and the Ubbedissen primary school .

Sports

Ubbedissen has its own sports club called SV Ubbedissen 09. It shares a gym and an artificial turf pitch with the Ubbedissen primary school. With over 1,150 members, SV Ubbedissen is one of the largest associations in Bielefeld. The club has departments for soccer, volleyball, chess, aerobics, athletics, gymnastics, table tennis, basketball, badminton and hiking. Since 2010, the sports club and primary school have been using a new double gym .

Ubbedissen stop

The federal highway 2 leads past Ubbedissen to the west and can be reached via the federal highway 66 , which in the area of Ubbedissen is developed like a highway. The most important inner-city street in Ubbedissen is Detmolder Straße .

In terms of rail transport, Ubbedissen has a stop on the Bielefeld – Lemgo railway line , which has passed through Ubbedissen since 1904. On this route, the Eurobahn operates regional train line 73 “Der Lipperländer” every hour. The bus lines 38 and 138 connect Ubbedissen with the Stieghorst terminus of line 3 of the Bielefeld tram .

The Ubbedissen public observatory is operated by the Natural Science Association for Bielefeld and the surrounding area.
