The Sieker statistical district

Sieker is a district of Bielefeld with 7250 inhabitants and a statistical district.

geography

The city of Bielefeld is not further subdivided into administrative or political units below the ten districts . Districts in Bielefeld are therefore only informal sub-areas, the delimitation of which mostly relates to the area of an old community. For statistical purposes, however, Bielefeld is divided into 72 “statistical districts”. The old community of Sieker extends over parts of the districts of Stieghorst and Mitte . The area of the old community roughly corresponds to the statistical districts of Sieker and Rütli (both districts of Stieghorst), Stauteiche / Großmarkt, part of Königsbrugge, the eastern part of Hammer Mühle and the southwest of Heeper Fichten (all in the middle). These sub-areas outline the informal Sieker district today. Often the part belonging to Siekers is also called Untersieker, while the part belonging to Stieghorst is called Obersieker. Since the old community of Sieker lost its independence in 1930, the boundaries of the old community are increasingly unknown. In the narrower sense, therefore, sometimes only the statistical district of Sieker is considered to be decisive for the boundary of the informal district of Sieker.

Sieker is about 3 km east of the city center and is seamlessly merged with it. If you use the area of the old community as a benchmark, Sieker extends on both sides of the Otto-Brenner-Straße / Osningstraße. The southern part belongs to the Stieghorst district while the part north of Oldentruper Strasse and west of Otto-Brenner-Strasse belong to the Mitte district. In the south of Sieker, the northern slope of the Teutoburg Forest rises steeply; this scenic area is called Sieker Switzerland and is also used as a climbing area. Hof Meyer zu Sieker is the oldest part of the town and is located about 400 m northeast of the intersection of Detmolder Strasse and Otto-Brenner-Strasse.

history

Sieker was originally an independent municipality in the Heepen district of the Bielefeld district . In 1909, Sieker received its own communal cemetery , Sieker, due to its rapid population growth .

On October 1, 1930 Sieker was incorporated into Bielefeld together with several other communities. After another regional reform in 1973 , city districts were set up in Bielefeld . The southern part of Sieker, also called Obersieker , came to the Stieghorst district; the northern part of Sieker, also called Untersieker , became part of the Mitte district.
