Location of Dalbke in Sennestadt
city of Bielefeld

Dalbke is a district in the Sennestadt district of the independent city of Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

The city of Bielefeld is not further subdivided into administrative or political units below the ten districts . Districts in Bielefeld are therefore only informal sub-areas, the delimitation of which mostly relates to the area of an old community. Dalbke, however, was never a separate municipality, which makes it difficult to define exactly. For statistical purposes, however, Bielefeld is divided into 72 “statistical districts”. The informal district Dalbke corresponds roughly to the statistical district 65 Dalbke . The population relates to this district in 2019.

Dalbke is located on the northern edge of the Senne landscape in front of the Teutoburg Forest , forms the southeasternmost section of the Bielefeld urban area and borders the town of Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock in the south and the town of Oerlinghausen in the northeast .

The Menkebach forms the south-eastern end of the settlement focus , and the Strothbach rises as another flowing water in the northern local area.

history

The name-giving estate "Dalbeke" was first mentioned in 1587. This estate was located on a four-country corner that existed until the 19th century, where the then independent countries of the counties Ravensberg , Lippe and Rietberg and the diocese of Paderborn collided. The boundary stones erected during the 18th century are still in their original location today.

At that time, the Dalbker Vierländereck was a frequent destination for Prussian deserters who had fled from Bielefeld . On the one hand, the sparsely populated Senne offered them protection; on the other hand, they could flee to three independent countries.

Before the industrialist Friedrich Ludwig Tenge founded a paper mill in 1835 and thus enabled many local residents to find employment, bricks were manufactured in Dalbke, at least to a small extent , whose raw material was provided by a moraine located just below the surface.

Culture and sights

Buildings

In the north of Dalbke there is an exhibition area of around 15 hectares, which was primarily used for the annual WISA business fair. This fair was once considered North Rhine-Westphalia's largest regional consumer fair and attracted several hundred thousand visitors in the 1970s. However, after the number of visitors decreased continuously in the following years, the WISA did not take place after its 40th edition in 2007. An almost six hectare part of the former WISA site was then converted into a traffic training area .

Natural monuments and nature reserves

Despite its relatively small size, Dalbke has three nature reserves , each of which was designated in 2005. In the north-west is the 8.1 hectare Esselhofer Bruch , on whose area wet heather , deciduous forest and fallow grassland can be found. In addition, the 2.6 hectare oak-beech forest Strothbach is located in the west .

The largest protected area in terms of area and extending into the Lippe district is the Menkhauser Bachtal with an area of 36.1 hectares, which is the Kastental of the eponymous and in this area natural course of the Menkebach. Within this protected area is the approximately 2 hectare Dalbker pond , which is a dam built in 1835 , with whose water the former Dalbker paper mill was supplied. Today this pond is used for fishing.
