A traffic training area is an area on which young road users can learn and practice dealing with traffic with or without expert guidance. There are traffic training areas for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. Driving a motor vehicle , mostly limited to motorcycles and cars , can also be practiced without a driving instructor . A minimum age of 15 years is required at the ADAC traffic training areas in Bavaria (Augsburg, Kempten, Ingolstadt, etc.). Participants who have not yet reached the age of majority also need a companion who can prove at least three years of driving experience. The traffic training areas meet the needs of young road users as well as the didactic concept of traffic education to find their way into appropriate traffic through initiative and self-determined learning.

Children and young people usually practice as pedestrians and cyclists under the supervision of a police officer and a teacher from their school. Requirements for practicing with a motor vehicle are a co-driver with a valid driving license for the desired class and a roadworthy and insured car. The vehicle owner is liable for accidents on the premises of the traffic training area. A deserted parking which applies Highway Code . The maximum speed for motor vehicles is usually 30 km / h.

Another minimum requirement for motor vehicle drivers is that the novice driver can start his driver training in the foreseeable future or is already in training.

The traffic training area should give the opportunity to practice the basic behavior when driving as well as the technical handling of the special means of transport without the danger from real traffic.
