The Detmold street is a major thoroughfare in the East Westphalian city of Bielefeld . It serves as a motorway feeder to the Bielefeld-Ost junction of federal motorway 2 and is part of federal highway 66 .

course

Detmolder Straße begins at the regional court as a continuation of Kreuzstraße with Niederwall as a cross street. From there it leads almost straight to the southeast, parallel to the south running Teutoburg Forest , out of the city, crossing in Sieker the Osningstrasse and Otto Brenner road and crosses Stieghorst . At the entrance to Hillegossen , Bundesstraße 66 branches off to the north as a bypass with the name Lagesche Straße . Detmolder Straße forms the through-road of the Hillegossen and Ubbedissen districts . At the exit of Ubbedissen, also on the city limits of Bielefeld, Detmolder Straße meets Lagesche Straße (B 66) again. Beyond the intersection, Gewerbestrasse , which belongs to the city of Leopoldshöhe , begins in an easterly direction .

History and significance today

The synagogue opened in September 2008 on Detmolder Strasse

The connection from Bielefeld to Detmold through Sieker was initially called Sieker Weg , later Detmolder Chaussee and, from 1873, finally Detmolder Straße . Since the construction of the tram according to Sieker in 1902, trams have been running through Detmolder Strasse, as before on a track that is flush with the street and not on a special track, as is usual for light rail vehicles .

At the beginning of the 20th century, the street was dominated by villas with sweeping front gardens; Pedestrians, cyclists and only a few cars used the road. Nevertheless, in March 1913 the residents complained to the Minden regional council about the excessive and, above all, too fast motor traffic . In their opinion, the approximately 60 cars on the cut-off date represented a serious threat, which is impressive testimony to the perception of traffic and speed at that time. In the course of the construction of the Berlin – Oberhausen autobahn in 1938, Detmolder Strasse became the connection between the city center and the autobahn. The road was widened, most of the front gardens fell victim to the measure. After the Second World War , increasing traffic led to a further widening of the street.

Today, the four-lane one-way and arterial road together with Eckendorfer Strasse serves as a feeder road with a daily traffic volume of around 40,000 vehicles. Relief is only expected after the completion of the A 33 in the urban area.

On September 21, 2008, the synagogue Beit Tikwa was inaugurated on Detmolder Strasse . The synagogue was created through the renovation of the Protestant Paul Gerhardt Church.

modification

In February 2004, the city of Bielefeld initiated a plan approval procedure for the expansion of Detmolder Straße. In the course of this procedure, there were protests by residents who feared a further deterioration in the quality of life due to increasing noise and dirt. In addition to reducing the speed to 30 km / h, a citizens' initiative also suggested reducing the speed to two lanes. Two resident lawsuits pending before the Higher Administrative Court in Münster were dismissed on April 25, 2007.

The renovation began in March 2008 and ended on schedule in April 2011. The renovation took place in six phases. In the first three phases, the construction site moved from the regional court towards the terminus in Sieker. In the last three phases she moved back from there since September 2009. In the course of the work, the four-lane street was structurally separated in the middle and elevated platforms were built at the Mozartstraße and Prießallee stops . Bike lanes and a special track for the light rail were not built. The total costs amounted to 44.8 million euros.

As it became known in 2013, due to the amendment of the Passenger Transport Act, shortly after the renovations were completed, the August-Bebel- and Teutoburger Straße stops have to be converted into barrier-free elevated platforms by 2021.
