Dieter Rossmeissl (born December 1948 in Selb ) is a German cultural and educational politician. From 2000 to 2017 he was the department head for education, culture and youth of the city of Erlangen .

Life

After graduating from the Willstätter-Gymnasium in Nuremberg and two years with the Air Force, Rossmeissl studied history, political science and German studies in Erlangen. He was involved in the student council and various university committees. In 1975 he passed the state examination for higher education. In 1977 he received his doctorate from Michael Stürmer at the University of Erlangen. phil.

After his legal clerkship in Schwabach, Lohr am Main and Fürth, he taught at the Gymnasium Röthenbach adPeg. German, history, social studies and psychology and headed the German student body.

1973 Rossmeissl joined the SPD . He was a member of the Juso district committee for Franconia and the state party council of the SPD. In 1978 he ran for the first time for the Nuremberg City Council, of which he was a member from 1982 to 2000.

In the Nuremberg city council, Rossmeissl was education policy spokesman and chairman of the school committee until 1996, after which he was economic policy spokesman for his parliamentary group. At the same time he was a member of the parliamentary group's executive committee. He was a member of the supervisory board of NürnbergMesse as well as the supervisory boards of Energie- und Wasserversorgungs-AG and the gas supply company Röthenbach adPeg.

In 1999, Rossmeissl was elected by the Erlangen city council as a consultant for culture, youth and leisure and took up his post on March 1, 2000. He has been re-elected twice since then, and his current term of office ends early at the end of February 2017 for reasons of age.

Until 2017, Rossmeissl was chairman of the cultural committee of the Bavarian Association of Cities, a member of the cultural committee and the educational committee of the German Association of Cities, of the federal board of the cultural and political society and has been the spokesman for the Bavarian State Group since 2017. He was a member of the German Stage Association and the Board of Trustees of the Evangelical City Academy Erlangen. Until 2017 he was executive chairman of the forum culture of the European metropolitan region Nuremberg and is honorary chairman of the association of friends and sponsors of the school museum Nuremberg.

For Erlangen, Rossmeissl was in charge of the “City 2030” project, in which the city and university jointly participated. The overall project under the scientific direction of the German Institute for Urban Studies (difu) was launched by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and represented the largest municipal research project in the history of the Federal Republic, in which cities should deal with their future prospects up to 2030.

He was also responsible for the cultural aspects of Erlangen's contribution as a city of science. At the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg he is a lecturer for local cultural policy and cultural management.
