Michael Martin Stürmer (born September 29, 1938 in Kassel ) is a German historian and journalist . From 1973 to 2003 he taught as a professor for Middle and Modern History at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg .

Michael Stürmer, son of the composer Bruno Stürmer and a violinist, graduated from the Friedrichsgymnasium Kassel in 1956 , studied history , philosophy and languages ​​at the London School of Economics and Political Science (among others with Michael Oakeshott ), at the Free University of Berlin (among others with Gordon A. Stürmer was a foreign policy advisor to Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl ( CDU ) from 1980 to 1986 . In 1984 he was appointed to the board of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation . From 1985 to 1987 Stürmer was a member of the founding committee of the Academy of Sciences in Berlin . From 1988 to 1998 he was director of the Science and Politics Foundation , at that time the Research Institute for International Politics and Security in Schäftlarn -Ebenhausen. Stürmer is married to the Israeli representative of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Berlin , Dorit Brandwein-Stürmer, and has four children.

In Uwe Krüger's study of the influence of elites on leading media , Michael Stürmer is counted among the journalists most closely linked to so-called elites .
