Rüdiger Hohls
Rüdiger Hohls (born November 6, 1955 in Walsrode ) is a German historian and research assistant at the Institute for Historical Studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin . There he is head of the “Historical IT” department and one of the editors of H-Soz-u-Kult , a communication and specialist information portal on the Internet for the historical sciences. Since 2013 he has been honorary professor for scientific communication and historical specialist information at the University of Leipzig .
Life
After studying history and mathematics, he took his state examination at the Free University of Berlin in 1984 . In 1991 he did his doctorate at the Free University of Berlin with a thesis on the long-term development of wage and income disparities in Germany.
From 1985 to 1988 he was a research assistant in two externally funded research projects on recent German / European economic and social history, 1988-1992 research assistant at the Institute for Economic and Social History at the Free University of Berlin, from 1992 to 1995 research assistant at the Institute for History of the Humboldt University in Berlin.
Research priorities
His teaching and research interests focus on social and economic-historical topics from recent history. He is particularly concerned with the changes in the world of work and the emergence of new media as well as their dissemination and effect on work and life contexts in the 19th and 20th centuries, including modern technological and cultural-historical perspectives. In addition, the rapidly developed technologies of digital information and communication transfer increasingly determine his everyday work; it is about the question of how the ' digital revolution ' can be used profitably for the historical sciences: one answer to this is u. a. the electronic discussion forum H-Soz-u-Kult .
