Hannes Siegrist

Hannes Siegrist (born June 26, 1947 in Zofingen , Switzerland ) is a German-Swiss historian .

Life

Siegrist studied general history, sociology, German literature since 1700 and journalism at the University of Zurich . It was there that he received his doctorate in 1976. Between 1977 and 1992 he worked as a research assistant, employee or fellow at the universities of Bielefeld , Zurich, Berlin, Florence and Uppsala . In 1992 he completed his habilitation at the Free University of Berlin . Then he was there together with Jürgen Kocka head of the office for comparative social history.

From 1997 to 2013 he taught as a professor for comparative cultural history / European modernism at the Institute for Cultural Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Philosophy at the University of Leipzig . In 2004/05 he held a research professorship at the Berlin Social Science Center and in 2012 a visiting professorship at the École Normale Supérieure, Rue d'Ulm, Paris, where he was a Fellow of the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme. Since 2007 he has been a full member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig .
