Jakob Tanner (historian)

Jakob Tanner (born July 18, 1950 in Root ) is a Swiss historian .

Live and act

Jakob Tanner studied history and German at the University of Zurich . From 1982 he worked as a research assistant and lecturer at the Universities of Basel , Freiburg , Bern and Zurich. In 1986 he was at the University of Zurich with the work "federal budget, currency and war economy" doctorate . He then completed several stays abroad, including at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, at the London School of Economics and Political Science and at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin. In 1996/1997 he worked as a substitute professor at Bielefeld University .

In 1997 Jakob Tanner was appointed professor for general and Swiss history of recent and recent times at the Research Center for Social and Economic History and the History Department of the University of Zurich. His work focuses on economic and financial history, science , medicine and the history of the body . In 2001/2002 he was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin , and since October 2004 he has been a fellow at the Collegium Helveticum . He was also a member of the Bergier Commission .

Jakob Tanner is co-editor of the journals Historische Anthropologie , Zeitschrift für Unternehmensgeschichte and Gesnerus . From 2004 to 2016 he was President of the Swiss Social Archives in Zurich, is a board member of the Swiss Society for Economic and Social History and a member of the advisory board of the research project “History of the German Research Foundation ”. Tanner is a member of the Center for the History of Knowledge . In 2015 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Lucerne .
