Dietmar Petzina

Heinz Dietmar Petzina (born September 15, 1938 in Prague ) is a German economist , economic historian and former rector of the Ruhr University Bochum .

Petzina grew up as the son of German Bohemia in Plan and Gangkofen / Ndb. on. After graduating from high school in Pfarrkirchen in 1957, he studied economics, history and sociology at the University of Munich . After graduating in economics in 1961, Petzina worked for the Rationalization Curatorium of the German Economy (RKW) in Munich and at the same time continued his studies in economics and history. In September 1962 he moved to the chair for economic and social history at the Mannheim Business School as a research assistant , where he worked in 1965 with Knut Borchardt 's work The National Socialist Four-Year Plan of 1936. Development, course, effects on Dr. rer. pole. received his doctorate. Petzina's work on the National Socialist four-year plan is still an indispensable representation of the economic history of National Socialist Germany. From 1962 to 1970 he was a research assistant at the University of Mannheim and at the Institute for Contemporary History in Munich.

From 1970 until his retirement in 2003, Petzina taught as a professor for social and economic history at the Ruhr University in Bochum . Petzina took on numerous positions in academic self-government. He was Dean of the Faculty of History and Vice Rector for Planning and Financial Affairs from 1973 to 1977 . From 1998 to 2002 he was rector of the Ruhr University Bochum. From 1973 to 2002, Petzina supervised 38 doctorates as the first reviewer. Important students of Petzina include Werner Abelshauser , Lutz Budraß , Jan-Otmar Hesse , Christian Kleinschmidt , Werner Plumpe and Wolfgang Zank .

His main research interests are the economic history of the 20th century, especially the Weimar Republic and National Socialism . Further focal points are the economic and crisis history, the regional history and history of the Ruhr area as well as the history of services. From 1991 to 2003 he was editor of the yearbook for economic history and also edited Schmoller's yearbook .
