Axel Schölmerich

Axel Schölmerich (* 1952 in Marburg an der Lahn ) is a German psychologist and rector of the Ruhr University Bochum .

Life

Schölmerich studied educational science (diploma 1977) and psychology (diploma 1980) at the University of Mainz . After receiving his doctorate at the University of Osnabrück in 1990 and a five-year research stay as a Fogarty Fellow at the National Institutes of Health (Maryland, USA), he completed his habilitation in 1995 in Mainz in the field of psychology.

He then accepted a call to the C3 professorship “Developmental Psychology” at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . In 1996 Schölmerich was appointed to the Ruhr University, initially to the C3 professorship in Developmental Psychology. In 2005, he turned down a full professorship in “Developmental Psychology” at the University of Vienna and instead accepted the W3 professorship in “Developmental Psychology” at RUB the following year .

From 2006 to 2007 he was dean of the Faculty of Psychology, since 2007 he has been a member of the Senate of the RUB, from 2012 to 2014 as chairman. In this function he initiated u. a. the first joint event of all senators of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr). From 2007 to 2015 he was a liaison professor at the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Schölmerich has been Rector of the Ruhr University Bochum since October 1, 2015.

Schölmerich is a member of the administrative board of RWI Essen .
