Peter Meyer-Dohm

Peter Meyer-Dohm (born April 25, 1930 in Hamburg ) is a German economist , university rector and non-fiction author .

Live and act

Meyer-Dohm trained as a bookseller at Otto Meissner Verlag from 1949 to 1951 . He then studied economics and social sciences at the Universities of Göttingen and Hamburg from 1951 to 1954 . With a degree in economics , he took up a position as a research assistant to Karl Schiller at the University of Hamburg in 1955 . He wrote on his dissertation The West German Book Market. An investigation of the market structure, at the same time a contribution to the analysis of the vertical price maintenance and in 1956 obtained the academic degree “ Dr. rer. pole. ". After 1964 also habilitated had, he taught from 1964 to 1965 at the University of Hamburg as a lecturer for economics . In 1965 he became a full professor for economics at the newly founded Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). His specialty was economic policy and the dependence of education on basic economic conditions in developing countries , with research mainly in India and other Asian countries. For several years he was a member of the scientific advisory team for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development .

At RUB he was Dean from 1967 to 1968 and Vice-Rector from 1971 to 1973 . His tenure as rector began on October 15, 1975 and lasted until 1979. In 1981 he left RUB and became an industrial consultant. From 1981 to 1992 he was Head of Central Education at Volkswagen AG in Wolfsburg and was responsible for personnel development . In doing so, he contributed in particular to the reform of in-house vocational training . In 1988 he accepted an honorary professorship for economics of education / business studies at the Technical University of Braunschweig . Also in 1988 he became a member of the university structure commission for the state of Lower Saxony for two years . From 1992 to 1995 he was head of the educational and socio-political projects department at Volkswagen AG. During the same period, he strengthened the education commission of the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia . In addition, he was a member of the Science Council from 1992 to 1998 . In 1995 he retired .

From 1996 to 2002 he was a member of the Education Forum of Saxony at the Saxon State Minister for Culture in Dresden and from 1999 to 2002 chairman of the Education Council at the Lower Saxony Prime Minister in Hanover . In 2008 he took on another task for Wolfsburg AG , which involved founding a private all-day school that focused on promoting talent and internationality . Meyer-Dohm, as head of the establishment commission, was responsible for the conception of the so-called “ New School Wolfsburg ”.
