The elephant murder never expires is the title of a television crime series by SAT1 with Thomas Sarbacher in the role of chief detective Matthias Steiner. It was first broadcast between October 2002 and January 2006.
General
The 90-minute pilot film for the series was broadcast on October 14, 2002, while the remaining 9 episodes of the first season were broadcast in 45 minutes from January 14, 2004 to March 3, 2004. The following second season consisted of 13 episodes of 45 minutes each and ran from October 5, 2005 to January 10, 2006.

Chief Inspector Matthias Steiner and his team work on unresolved, sometimes long-ago murder cases. Since his wife was killed years ago and this could not be solved, he developed into a meticulous investigator who puts his private life behind the cases to be clarified. This is where his excellent memory comes in handy, which is why he is nicknamed "The Elephant" on the team. He is supported in his investigations by the inspectors Julia Gerling and Andreas Zier.
