Mario König (born November 12, 1947 in Zurich ; † April 6, 2019 ) was a Swiss historian .

Life

Mario König, son of the German sociologist René König , who fled the Nazi regime to Switzerland , studied general history, economic and social history at the University of Zurich from 1969 . After graduating, he worked at the Research Center for Social and Economic History in Zurich. In 1980 he did his doctorate in Zurich on the social situation and organization of employees in Switzerland during the First World War and shortly afterwards. Since 1986 he has worked as a freelance worker on various research projects, publications and exhibitions as well as in the editorial department of the historical magazine « traverse - magazine for history / Revue d'histoire». He was a research assistant at the Independent Expert Commission Switzerland - Second World War (ICE) (author of the Interhandel study, ICE publications, Volume 2) and a member of the final report editorial group. His research focuses on the social, economic and cultural history of Switzerland and Germany in the 20th century. König succumbed to cancer in April 2019.
