Manfred Hettling

Manfred Hettling (born March 24, 1956 in Ulm ) is a German historian .

Life

Manfred Hettling studied mathematics, history, German, social science and speech training in Regensburg . After taking the language trainer examination in 1980, he continued his studies in history and German at Bielefeld University, which he completed with the state examination. This was followed by his doctorate in 1989 and his habilitation in 1997.

Since 2001 he has been Professor of Modern and Contemporary History at the Martin Luther University in Halle . His research interests relate to the bourgeoisie and civil society , civil society in Germany and Japan, and the political death cult in Germany in comparison . Hettling was visiting professor at the University of Tokyo in 2015 .
