Michael G. Müller (* 1950 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German historian and professor at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg .

Life

Michael G. Müller studied history and Slavic studies at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and received his state examination for teaching at grammar schools in 1974. In 1977 he received his doctorate in Eastern European history . 1974 to 1990 Müller worked as a research assistant at the universities of Frankfurt and Giessen and was active at the Historical Commission in Berlin . Afterwards he was a research fellow of the German Research Foundation and holder of the Immanuel Kant habilitation grant until 1992 . He then held the professorship for the history of East Central Europe at the European University Institute in Florence until 1996 . During this time he completed his habilitation in Modern and Eastern European History at the Free University of Berlin . Since 1996 Michael G. Müller has been Professor of Eastern European History at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. In 2008 he turned down an offer at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. In 2012 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Warsaw  .

Müller's fields of work include the political and constitutional history of Poland and Russia from the 16th to the 19th centuries, the history of East German countries and the history of German-Polish relations , and the comparative social history of East Central Europe in modern times.

Michael G. Müller is co-editor of the magazines Year Books for the History of Eastern Europe and the Berlin Year Book for Eastern European History . From 1998 to 2011 he was co-editor of the journal for East Central Europe research . He is also a member of the Presidium of the German-Polish Textbook Commission of Historians.
