The 112 full-time and honorary members of the fire brigade handle around 13,000 missions annually with their 87 vehicles.

history

The fire department of the city of Minden was founded as a volunteer fire department in 1872. A first fire station was located on Brüderstraße / Alte Kirchstraße, in the middle of the upper town. Another fire station had procured for the 1910 Magirus - turret head of the townhouse, are thus built in the Lower Town. Another generously dimensioned fire station was then built on Königsplatz.

On April 8, 1945, the then Wehrführer Jäger received an order from the British military government to set up a permanently manned fire station with 30 to 40 men. Since then, the Minden fire brigade has also taken on the tasks of rescue services and ambulance transport. In addition to the work in the various workshops (radio workshop, car workshop, respiratory protection workshop), the message and alarm center was manned by full-time staff. From here, in addition to answering the emergency call, the volunteer fire brigade was also alerted.

From 1957 the next fire station is located in the former artillery barracks , here already with a hose tower. On November 26, 1971, the fire station on Marienstraße was inaugurated. Further expansions took place here from 1998 to the present day.

Professional fire brigade and rescue service

In 1990 the full-time guard of the Minden volunteer fire brigade became the Minden professional fire brigade. According to the law on fire protection , assistance and disaster control in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (BHKG), the head of the professional fire brigade has also been chief of the volunteer fire brigade.

The fire and rescue station of the city of Minden is on Marienstraße, directly on the Mittelland Canal . The 1971-related, and expanded in 2004 and renovated building complex is due to the high hose tower visible from afar and in addition to the fire brigade, the control center of the Minden-Lübbecke , the fire brigade center volunteer firefighters, some reserve - and special vehicles as well as the management of the volunteer fire department and the Professional fire brigade.

In addition to working in the various workshops (radio workshop, car workshop, respiratory protection workshop), the message and alarm center was manned by full-time staff. From here, in addition to answering the emergency call, the volunteer fire brigade was also alerted.

The circular control center Minden-Lübbecke is a control center that the full range of non-police security edited, so an association of firefighters, rescue service, civil protection and control center. All operations of the fire brigades, the rescue service and the qualified ambulance for the Minden-Lübbecke district are coordinated from here. Furthermore, units of the technical relief organization (THW) or the non-profit aid organizations DRK , JUH and MHD are alerted by the control center . The district control center has been operated by the district of Minden-Lübbecke since January 1, 2018 and has been a tenant in the premises of the city of Minden and no longer part of the professional fire brigade. The decision to build a new district control center outside the urban area of Minden has been made in the next few years.

The volunteer fire brigade is also alerted if fire alarm systems are triggered in old people's homes, clinics or, in some cases , industrial plants.

Volunteer firefighter

In 1990 the volunteer fire brigade with honorary and full-time workers became a purely voluntary fire brigade with only voluntary workers. Since the professional fire brigade was founded at the same time, the head of the professional fire brigade also took on the duties of the head of the volunteer fire brigade in accordance with the Fire Protection and Assistance Act NRW. Nevertheless, the entire personnel administration of the volunteer fire brigade is still done on a voluntary basis. To represent the volunteer members of the fire brigade, the fire brigade and platoon leaders elect the fire brigade spokesman from among their ranks. This represents the interests of the volunteer fire brigade towards the head of the fire brigade.

On the basis of the fire protection requirement plan, protection goal 1 in the urban area of the city of Minden is achieved together with the relay (seven fire brigade members on the 24-hour service of the fire brigade) of the professional fire brigade. Protection goal 2 is only represented by the volunteer fire brigade.

The Minden volunteer fire brigade consists of five fire compartments, which are structured as follows:
