geography

The Weser Bridge connects the old town of Minden with the right bank of the Weser, the river is a defining feature of the cityscape. There are initiatives to give this area of the Weser a new use - one consideration is the candidacy for the State Garden Show 2012/2017. For a few years now, the association "Weserfreunde" has created a sandy beach in the bank area in order to bring the original bank shape of the Weser back into public awareness. In spring, the Weser regularly overflows its banks and floods the narrow urban passage.

history

The settlement of the east bank of the Weser began with the construction of the monastery of Saint Mauritius to secure the trade routes in the 11th century. The first Weser bridge was built in the 13th century, connecting the right bank of the Weser with the city of Minden on the left bank of the Weser.

Following the dissolution of the Minden Fortress, the eastern bridgehead at the Weser Bridge was settled directly on the Weser . Along the road connection from Minden to the east, the old federal highway 65 , after the fortification of the city of Minden was abolished in 1893, town houses , industrial and sports facilities were built on one of the old Weser islands. Access is gained from the west via the Weser Bridge and from the east via the Bunte Brücke. When the Weser floods, the Weser floods its floodplain and the bridgehead is an island again.

The settlement was first north instead of the imperial road, then the southern area was built. A building code , or a land-use planning there was for this area less. However, primarily representative town houses were built here.

In the south the bridgehead merges into the Chancellor's pasture. This was initially a pasture in the Weserwiesen to Neesen . The northern part was released for development, the southern part serves as a festival area after its fortification and was used as a place for events such as the Mindener Freischießen and the Mindener Messe from the beginning of the 20th century . Today some of the houses in the southern area are under monument protection. For example the garage at Uferstrasse 2 , built in 1908 for the Kommerzienrat Theodor Mayer, one of the first car owners in Minden. Expanded in 1960, it is currently used by the rainbow artist group .

In the mid-1990s, the square was redesigned and expanded again. Now it is used as a large car park for the city of Minden , connected by the Minden Glacis Bridge , a newly built pedestrian suspension bridge over the Weser , which connects Kanzlers Weide directly with the city center and forms a west-east connection on the southern right bank of the Weser with the bike path that continues to the east .

Area around the train station

To the east is the area around the train station. Built in 1847 as the terminus of the Cöln-Minden Railway , it was the border station for the state of Prussia . The station was therefore built as a symmetrical double hall, one hall belonged to Prussia and one to the Kingdom of Hanover . Travelers had to get off here and perform the administrative tasks (customs, stacking rights, etc.). Later, the Hannoversche Westbahn was built here from Hanover via Löhne to Osnabrück and met the Cöln-Mindener Eisenbahn in Minden. The station barracks were built for the transferring soldiers and the station was protected against the Kingdom of Hanover by three forts to the east as part of the Minden fortress . They roughly mark the eastern border of the right bank of the Weser.

In 1850 the building for the Minden Oberpostdirektion was erected in the Prussian fortress style from sandstone directly at the train station .

From 1902 to 1957, there was a Mindener Kreisbahnen station on Kaiserstraße opposite the Oberpostdirektion (today Park-and-Ride Square) . From 1920 until the 1950s, trams ran to the train station and via Grille to Meissen . On Friedrich-Wilhelm-Strasse, the Kreisbahnen built a transfer station and in 1919 a passenger station, which was also used by the Bad Eilsener Kleinbahn until 1922 .

A new district of the city of Minden was built around this station, from which Minden began to rapidly industrialize. Today there are many station facilities around the station, which were fallow due to the closure of the Minden freight station in the 1990s and waiting to be reused.

To the west of the train station, the building contractor Friedrich Lax built the so-called Laxburg, a development with tenement houses in a style that was progressive at the time. It was here that gas lamps were found for the first time in Minden , these are now under monument protection and are the last evidence of this time. The Lange Jammer was built in the northern area in 1897 .

The city has now taken on the quarter and is trying to promote urban development.

Regular events

Several events take place every year on the Kanzlers Weide fairground on the Weser. Mention should be made of the Mindener fair , the Mindener free shooting as well as other major events.

Economy and Infrastructure

Established businesses

Resident larger companies include the Deutsche Post AG with a distribution warehouse , Siegfried PharmaChemischem Minden , formerly BASF Pharmachemuellen and previously Knoll AG , which produces chemical raw materials for the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry, as well as the administration of the Mindener Kreisbahnen (MKB).

traffic

The traffic in this part of the city is mainly determined by the Kaiserstraße, which runs from west to east. To the east it leaves the old Weser island with the colorful bridge. The Hausbergerstraße runs to the south, it is also a long-distance road that picks up the traffic going south on the eastern bank of the Weser and leads via Porta Westfalica - Neesen to Porta Westfalica- Hausberge and the A2 motorway . Both roads are heavily used, a planned bypass road through the Weserwiesen east of the bridgehead was finally stopped by the state government in Düsseldorf in the summer of 2006 .

The Bunte Brücke, the connection in the east, was only approved for medium loads for a long time due to static problems. An on-site inspection revealed severe structural defects. At the beginning of 2006, it was only passable on one lane in each direction. The Landesbetrieb Straßenbau NRW put out a tender for the construction of the bridge, including the redesign of the eastern apron. The new construction began in 2009 and was completed in 2011. Due to this traffic restriction, the bridgehead was noticeably relieved of traffic. In the spring of 2010, the southern part of the new Bunter bridge was completed and opened to traffic. The northern section was then rebuilt and opened to traffic in 2011.

The city of Minden decided to further expand Kaiserstraße and to eliminate the lateral parking strips in the area of the bridgehead. The business owners along the street are calling for the street to be demolished and for parking lots with tree plantings to be created in order to upgrade the old eastern entrance gate to the city of Minden. In 2011, Hausberger Straße was rebuilt and a continuous cycle path was created on the western edge. In the southern entrance to the city area, a new traffic island slows traffic when entering the city area.

Industrial port and south descent

To the north is the area around the eastern bank of the Minden waterway intersection . Here you will find inland ports , industrial plants and some commercial areas . The old Weser port is home to the Weser yard and an old coal port, the area is considered to be so-called "carbon bank" as a typical "working-class neighborhood."

For the area on the east bank of the canal overpass, formerly the location of the old glassworks, there is the interest of an investor who wants to develop several retail properties on the area, such as a hardware store.

Business settlement

For the old fallow site of Gerresheimer Glas, plans are under discussion that want to set up a hardware store there or are planning an urban development there.

School situation

The port school, the only school in the district, is located northwest of the Laxburg on Hafenstrasse . In the new school development plan of the city of Minden, this has been merged with the primary school in Meißen due to the declining number of pupils and renamed the Cornelia Funke School. The new school location has been in Dankersen on Olafstrasse since 2007/2008 . This means that the district of Rechtes Weserufer is similar to the district of Meißen without its own school.

City map for children and young people

In 2015, a new city map for children and young people was developed for the district with various partners.

District office on the right side of the Weser

The district management on the right side of the Weser has been operating a district office on the parade ground since November 24, 2017.

Public facilities

There is a unit of the voluntary fire brigade of the city of Minden on the bridgehead .
