The Weser Werft GmbH Minden is a former shipyard in eastern Westphalia Minden and was in port Minden settled. For the right bank of the Weser , the factories in this area shaped the cityscape.

history

In 1918 the Weser shipyard was founded under the name “Ship and Mechanical Engineering Company with limited liability in Minden iW” at the so-called Old Weser Harbor. The main shareholders were the Bremer and Mindener Schleppschifffahrtsgesellschaft as well as the city of Minden. The Weser shipyard held a patent for the “Universal Schilling Rudder”, a simple and robust construction with good steering properties.

Most recently, the location was used as a repair and conversion yard for the manufacture of rudder systems and nozzles and as a supplier of sections and hulls. On February 29, 2004, the Weser shipyard was closed due to the poor order situation and insolvency proceedings were opened.

The abandoned area with the large halls was initially used by young people as an adventure playground, and by photographers as an attractive location and for artistic purposes. After disposal work on the buildings, two of them are now due for demolition. In the Minden city administration there are planning considerations for a large-scale redesign of the area of the old Weser shipyard up to the station area. For this purpose, the application for inclusion in the urban redevelopment west funding program was applied for in the summer of 2007. The shipyard site will also be included in the overall considerations for the 2017 State Horticultural Show.

In the meantime, the shipyard is being converted again, the Mindener Werft Rosemeyer, based on Karlstrasse, uses the shipyard when its main shipyard in the industrial port is occupied.
