The Chancellor's Pasture is a fairground and parking area in the East Westphalian city of Minden in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is located on the right bank of the Weser near downtown Minden.

Origin of name

Beach area at the Chancellor's pasture

It owes its name to the Brandenburg-Prussian Chancellor Wilhelm Heinrich Danckelmann . He bought the former Stadtweide on March 29, 1691 from the city of Minden. After his death in 1752, the area was returned to the city. The name was retained.

history

The northern part of the right bank of the Weser was included in the 18th century for the construction of the fortress , in particular for the expansion of the bridgehead. The first Bürgererschützenfest took place in 1841 on the Chancellor's pasture. At that time Minden was still a fortress , it was only dissolved in 1872. In addition, there was a first river bathing establishment on Chancellor's pasture from 1851 to 1862 . From 1913 to 1930 there was a cloakroom and refreshment building.

Until the middle of the 20th century, there was little use for the Chancellor's pasture. In the 1950s, a campsite was set up on the banks of the Weser , and the care was provided by the little stall built on the site. There was once a mini golf course in the forest on the embankment . The square was used as a parade ground for political speeches. From 1960, however, the area was increasingly used as an event and festival area, including for the Minden trade fair . The increasing volume of traffic also ensured that a large parking area was created on the Chancellor's pasture. In 1995 the Kanzlers Weide car park was connected directly to the city center of Minden by building a glacie bridge over the Weser.

Todays use

Today numerous events and concerts take place on the Chancellor's Pasture. The city of Minden installed a new webcam and free WiFi here as part of its communication offensive in June 2015 . On the paved part of the square along the Weser, a caravan site for the city of Minden was created. By a council decision of the city of Minden, this has been subject to a fee for mobile homes since July 1, 2016.
