The Martin Luther Hospital is one of two hospitals in the Wattenscheid district of Bochum . Since the neighboring Marien-Hospital Wattenscheid began specializing in geriatrics (acute and rehabilitation treatment) in 1997, it has been the only hospital in Wattenscheid that offers in- patient basic care for the disciplines listed below.

The house has 298 beds according to §108 / 109 SGB V, including 126 beds in the field of psychiatry . It has the specialist departments of anesthesia / intensive care medicine , ophthalmology (occupational department) with 4 beds, accident, general and visceral surgery with 77 beds, internal medicine with 91 beds (including gastroenterology and cardiology) and psychiatry including a psychiatric day clinic .

Ophthalmology provides a center for cornea - transplantation . The treatment methods developed here include “deep lamellar keratoplasty ” and “live epikeratophakia ”.

The psychiatric department comprises two general psychiatric wards , a psychotherapeutic ward, a geriatric psychiatric ward, a ward for qualified acute treatment of drug addicts, another ward for qualified withdrawal treatment for alcohol-dependent and / or drug -dependent patients and a day clinic.

The clinic treats around 8,000 inpatients and around 15,000 outpatients annually. Around 700 people work in the house, over 250 of them in the nursing service . The Martin-Luther-Krankenhaus gGmbH is the non-profit sponsor of the house. In spring 2019, the Martin Luther Hospital was released from the sponsorship of the Diakoniewerksverbund GmbH and Diakoniewerks Gelsenkirchen und Wattenscheid eV and integrated into the Catholic Clinic in Bochum.
